We designed the 18-inch digging tool to pop the plug in a gopher tunnel, check for forking tunnels, and clearing debris without enlarging the tunnel. When trapping a gopher, use the marks on the Digging Tool to probe the tunnel for multiple tunnels. If you dig open the tunnel larger than the jaws of the trap, the gopher will circumvent the trap and you will miss it. The spoon of the Digging Tool is proportioned to open gopher (and mole) tunnels to the correct diameter. The Digging Tool can be used with any manufacturer of trap (Victor Easy Set, Sweeny, Macabee, Gophinator), but we highly recommend using a cinch trap. A mole tunnel does not fork, but the debris must be cleaned out without enlarging the tunnel. Whether trapping a gopher or a mole, this tool beats any screwdriver or Hori Hori Garden knife in price and effectiveness.
